Letting Go
A Powerful Practise for Greater Peace & Fulfillment
Letting Go, David Hawkins
How can you let go for greater inner peace, fulfillment, and joy?
After reading the book Letting Go by David Hawkins, it absolutely changed my life. I’ve read many spiritual books that have been extremely useful and practical, and this is definitely one of the top ones. I can’t recommend it enough.
This is an absolute game changer when it comes to having greater joy and peace in your life. In this brief guide, I’m going to share the mechanism that can help you to practice letting go in your own life.
The basic idea David Hawkins explains is that when we suppress our emotions, we create condensed energy we haven’t processed.
We tend to deal with emotions in one of four ways:
Repressing: ignoring them subconsciously.
Suppressing: consciously telling ourselves we don’t want to feel them.
Expressing: talking about them with others or showing them outwardly.
Avoidance/Escapism: distracting ourselves from painful emotions.
All of these are fine in small doses, especially during intense emotional storms. But if we use them constantly, nothing gets processed. The pain and discomfort simply add up.
Emotions in the body
Begin by noticing where in your body you feel an emotion.
You might find:
A tense stomach.
A heavy chest.
A compressed throat.
If you’ve been under stress for a long time, these sensations may be strong. Even simply identifying where emotions show up is a powerful practice.
Once you notice the sensation, stay with it. Sit in silence and accept the feeling. If you can stay with it for five to ten minutes, letting go will happen on its own.
The sensation often moves upward in the body before releasing. This may feel unusual, but it is part of the process.
Physical effects during release may include:
Crying or shouting.
Trembling or chills.
Coughing.
Feeling super thirsty.
Brief nausea.
All these physical effects are an indication that you are processing the stuck emotions.
Lightness, Joy and Clarity
When you regularly let go in this way, you change your physiology. Releasing repressed emotions shifts your energy and transforms how you feel.
Over time, you may notice:
More lightness.
More joy.
More clarity.
You can begin to let go continuously throughout the day. When something arises that is challenging emotionally, you will be able to feel it in the body, stay with it, breathe through it, and allow it to move out.
As Michael Singer says: let it go, let it be.
This is the essence of Letting Go: feel the emotion, stay with it, accept it, and allow it to move through.
With practice, you will experience greater peace, joy, and freedom.
Thank you for reading,
Enjoy the journey,
Katie
